A Servant of Christ Ministry

Cross-less
A Christian Tragedy

Cross-Less Church

Where is the Passion?

Before we make a decision on what is considered an idol or a depiction of a sacrifice based on perceived notions , let us first pray to be one with Christ Jesus and remove all perceived notions, then look into the scriptures for direction based on His wisdom and Knowledge.

Reason for the Vanishing Cross

The verses listed below are the most common scriptures used for the removal of the cross.

1. Exodus 20:4  The second commandment
"You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. "
Summary
God's instruction to not make a graven image.   A figure of wood or stone that is an object of worship.

2. Deuteronomy 5:8
"You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth."
Summary
God's instruction to not make a graven image.  A figure of wood or stone that is an object of worship.

3. Ephesians 5:5
"For this you know with certainty, that no immoral or impure person or covetous man, who is an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God."

4. Matthew 10:38
"And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. "

Summary
The two statements I have heard in the decision for the removal are...
A.  The cross is a graven image and has no place in the church.
B.  The depiction of the cross in the scriptures was only symbolic.

Reason for displaying the Cross

The verses listed below are the most common scriptures used for the displaying of the cross.

Galatians 2:20
"I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me."
Summary
Being crucified with Christ is it a real spiritual event or just a symbolic gesture?

1 Corinthians 1: 18-20  Christ the Power and the Wisdom of God
"
For the message about Christ's death on the cross is nonsense to those who are being lost; but for us who are being saved it is God's power. The scripture says,
"I will destroy the wisdom of the wise and set aside the understanding of the scholars."  So then, where does that leave the wise? or the scholars? or the skillful debaters of this world?"
Summary
God has shown that this world's wisdom is foolishness!  By removing the cross is that a sign of the world encroaching into the church?

Galatians 5:24
"Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires."
Summary
The cross depicts the passion and desires that Christ Jesus would have for us.  Is Paul talking about a symbolic or real spiritual event that takes place in a person?

Mark 8:34-35
"And He summoned the multitude with His disciples, and said to them, "If anyone wishes to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.  For whoever wishes to save his life shall lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel's shall save it."
Summary
Is this event symbolic or real spiritual event?

Can a congregation have "Passion" without a displayed cross?

Cross-Less Church

The scriptures are clear that salvation occurs by the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross.  So why is the church so eager to move the cross?  Have the prosperity and social gospels replaced the cross?

Personal Commentary
Romans 10:3
"For not knowing about God's righteousness, and seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God."
Without the Cross, many church people have no real discernment of what it really means to be saved.

1.  The Law was not given to save us, but to show us that we needed to be saved. It takes us by the hand, brings us to the Cross of Christ and says, "Little fellow, you need a Savior."

2.
The Cross establishes a preaching which is a stumbling block to the self-righteous, the so called religious and foolishness to the philosophers and the so called wise or debtors of this world.  Without the presence of the cross, a congregation could drift away to cheap GRACE and foolish TEACHINGS.

Hebrews 12:1-3  “Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance, and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

Please pray and talk to you congregation leaders to reestablish the cross.

My Greatest Joy, is to obey my Lord.
